McDonald Wins In New Zealand

McKENZIE, Tenn. (Nov. 23, 2016) – J&J Auto Racing drivers Morgan Turpen and Derek Hagar laid claim to two of three 2016 United Sprint Car Series (USCS) dirt championships to close out the season. Turpen, driving for owner Terry Gray, won six feature events en route to her second consecutive USCS National Series title. Turpen, who hails from Cordova, Tenn., made history to become the only women in sprint car and USCS Series history to win back-to-back national championships. Owner and fellow driver, Gray, also posted solid season stats as he finished second in both the USCS National division and the USCS Mid-South Thunder Series.

Hagar picked up the USCS Mid-South Thunder Series championship, winning 14 races behind the wheel of a J&J Auto Racing entry. The Arkansas native collected a total of 16 wins in 2016, tying his record for the most in a single season. In addition to the wins, Hagar collected 37 top-five finishes and 42 top-10 finishes in 55 races. His final win of the 2016 season came at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., on Nov. 12. Hagar has now won all three USCS division titles in his career.

New Zealand’s Jamie McDonald won his fourth winged sprint car event of the 2016 season at Baypark Family Speedway on Nov. 19. Pulling the seven-pill for the heat race line-up, McDonald came through the field in short order to finish third in his heat race. In the second heat of the night, McDonald started ninth and drove to third. Entering the feature event as the high point qualifier, McDonald chose the outside row one starting position and took the lead at the green flag. Leading from green to checkered, McDonald took the win in the No. 71 entry.

Smith Puts New Team Together to Take on All Stars in 2017

Inside Line Promotions – KUNKLETOWN, Pa. (Jan. 20, 2017) – Ryan Smith will return to the Arctic Cat All Star Circuit of Champions tour in 2017 with a new team concept.

Smith has been hard at work throughout the winter putting a team together to challenge for the All Star title. Smith campaigned with the traveling series in 2015, when he finished seventh in the championship standings after earning three feature wins along the way.

“This will be a partnership with Tom and Sherry Leidig and Rob Warko and me,” he said. “This will give us the resources to be successful. We’re going to start in Florida with Tom and Sherry Leidig’s No. 59 and run the eight races down there. Rob Warko and The Warko Group will be on the car. Rob will be a huge part in this operation.

“Tom and Sherry are fantastic people who love this sport and Rob has been steadfast in his support for me since Day 1. I will work hard to make them proud and give them the results they deserve. The All Star tour works perfectly for us as all the races are pretty close to our home. There are some new tracks on the schedule that I’m excited to get to.”

Smith said the team plans to run the marquee sprint car events like the Williams Grove National Open, the Knoxville Nationals, the World Finals and the Kings Royal just to name a few.

“With Tom and Sherry and Rob all on board we have the resources available to compete for wins and that has me very pumped up,” he said.

Smith’s season will begin with the All Stars at Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala, Fla., Feb. 9-11 before shifting to Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla., Feb. 15-16 followed by the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series tripleheader at Volusia Speedway Park Feb. 17-19.
